Fensa Registered Company

PVC U windows have always been energy efficient. But now thanks to new government building regulations, there are minimum standards of energy efficiency that window, door and conservatories fitted in the UK must meet.

The regulations are known as "Document L" (Document J in Scotland) and they set energy efficiency targets that reduce heat loss from frames and glass to help Great Britain meet its commitment to reduce green house gases under the Kyoto accord.

To ensure that you fit replacement windows that meet these new standards, the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and other industry bodies, with government encouragement, have set up FENSA - the Fenestration Self-Assessment scheme. Companies in the FENSA scheme will provide you with a certificate confirming that their windows comply with the new regulations. Installations by FENSA - registered companies are subject to random inspections by the schemes representatives.
BS EN ISO 9000:2000

BS EN ISO 9000:2000 is an international standard that specifies the requirements of a quality management system. The standard deals with the overall quality system under which the product is manufactured. The quality of the product benefits from the procedures put in place to maintain the standard. There are 20 sections in the standard which are subject to regular audits, these include external audits carried out 4 times a year by the British Standards Institute. These audits help to maintain and improve the management system and product quality. As a BSI registered firm Newstead has an obligation to achieve customer satisfaction at all stages from sales through to service.

BS 7412

BS 7412 is the British Standard for the manufacture of PVC-U windows. The standard itself specifies that the sections used are themselves manufactured to the requirements of another British Standard namely BSEN 12608. The standard covers the window construction, security, safety, weather tightness, operation and strength of the windows produced. To maintain this standard rigorous inspection and testing procedures have been developed. Each window undergoes 3 in-process inspections as well as an end of line inspection involving a 20-point check against the customer's order. In order to monitor weld performance, daily samples are taken from the welding machines and tested to destruction.

BSEN 1279

BSEN 1279 is the British Standard for the manufacture of flat hermitically sealed double glazed units. The standard specifies the performance requirements and test methods, which must be complied with. The sealant and desiccant have to be tested during each shift. Units undergo in-process inspection and daily samples are taken for testing. Compliance with these procedures provides an assurance that the units manufactured will offer an excellent standard of quality and performance.

For Security
BS 7950

BS 7950 is the British Standard for the manufacture of windows with enhanced security. This standard starts by specifying that the windows have to comply with BS 7412. It then goes further to specify the security hardware and construction methods to be used and adopted. Samples are tested by BSI 4 times a year to ensure compliance with the standard. These tests include a mechanical locking point strength test using hydraulic rams to replicate a forced entry and a manual intervention test using various burglary tools. The windows must successfully resist these sustained attacks for a minimum period of 3 minutes.

BM Trada
www.bmtrada.com

In January 2006 Newstead achieved a 'C' Energy Rating on its Synseal 'Shield' windows from the regulatory body the British Fenestration Ratings Council, which is supported by the Energy Saving Trust.

This was followed in March 2007 with a 'C' Energy Rating on Synseal 'Synerjy' windows and an additional 'B' Energy Rating for both Synseal 'Shield' and 'Synerjy'

We are currently undergoing testing for 'A' rated products and these will be available shortly..

Products with a high ('A' - 'C') rating can help reduce energy bills and cut down on carbon dioxide emissions.
